At The St Mellion Plymouth Laser Treatment Clinic we use radiosurgery to remove benign skin lesions, moles and skin tags. This is a technique using high frequency radio waves to remove the unwanted lesions with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. This results in a very superficial wound, which usually heals with minimal or no scarring.

Radiosurgery technology is somewhat similar to laser or electro-surgery, but it uses a different part of the electromagnetic spectrum than either. Instead of using light waves (like laser), and instead of using high-temperature, low-frequency waves (such as with electro-surgery), radiosurgery uses low-temperature, high-energy waves in the radio bandwidth.

 

Although PPPs are benign it doesn’t mean you have to live with them. Traditionally there were many different treatment options including topical podophyllin, excisional surgery, electrodessication with curettage, cryotherapy and carbon dioxide laser. Topical podophyllin was found to be ineffective and the other treatment modalities were found to have mixed results.

At St Mellion Cosmetic Clinic we prefer to use Radiosurgical excision or radio-wave surgery for the removal of PPPs as well as other common skin lesions. We find that because this technology uses radio waves and not electricity or heat, it causes less damage to the surrounding tissues, therefore reducing post-treatment scarring and healing time. 

 

This modality used by Dr Patel allows for a very precise excision of skin lesions unmatched by the above mentioned treatment modalities.
