There are medicines to control hair growth for women with PCOS. In some cases, women experience hair loss. The NHS recommends laser hair removal as a method for removing unwanted hair. Although conventional methods like shaving, plucking, waxing and hair removal creams offer some temporarily relief of symptoms, they are not permanent.

What is PCOS?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) a condition that affects women and can disrupt their cycle, cause infertility, and lead to excess amounts of facial and body hair. Between 5% and 10% of women between 15 and 44, or during the years you can have children, have PCOS. However, PCOS can happen at any age after puberty.

What causes PCOS is unclear but experts think that PCOS is down to a mix of genetics and exposure to toxins in the environment.

There’s no cure for PCOS but women can improve symptoms with birth control, medication, and by losing weight if they are overweight. Some symptoms, like excessive hair growth can be improved or managed by laser hair removal.

Typically 4-8 laser treatments is required to achieve complete hair removal. It is advised dependent on each individual you may need a refreshment treatment 1-2 annually, each individual varies and some may not need any refreshment treatments at all.

It is advised to allow 3-4 weeks between each treatment. Each treatment you attend, you will be booked in advance on our calendar. We can be flexible to suit your requirements. IPL laser hair removal can consist of more treatments.

After the Laser Hair Removal Treatment, skin may be red immediately after the treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen or bumpy but this will usually subside within a few hours.

During the laser hair removal process, hair follicles are damaged but the hairs remain in the folicles. The dead hairs will then shed after 1-2 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to grow as the are pushed out by the new epidermis. Once achieved expected number of treatments, complete Hair removal will be achieved.

Multiple treatments of laser hair removal will be needed to treat unwanted hair and are conducted every 3-4 weeks. It is typical for 4 or more treatments to be needed for optimal results to occur.
