About Soprano Ice® Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal using the award-winning Soprano Ice by Alma is our most popular treatment at Plymouth Laser Clinic.

Getting rid of unwanted hair is an age-old issue, with long-term hair removal being particularly challenging. People who suffer from excess hair used to go through painful and long hours of waxing and plucking. Alma’s SHR (Super hair removal) hair removal method uses groundbreaking technology to offer a simple, one-stop solution for truly effective hair removal. SHR’s unique gradual heating method effectively damages the hair follicles while avoiding injury to the surrounding skin.

Here at Plymouth Laser Clinic, our male and female specialists regularly treat patients suffering from Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a common hormone disorder that can cause a variety of symptoms, including excessive facial and body hair growth. Soprano SHR VS standard laser hair removal

Traditional light-based hair removal devices such as IPL (intense pulsed light) and laser worked by pulsing the skin with a strong light beam so that the melanin-containing hair follicle would absorb the delivered energy, heat up considerably and be destroyed. However, this approach, while being more effective than waxing, is still quite painful for most patients. Melanin rich skin is more susceptible to burns, therefor people with darker skin colour cannot receive treatment.

SHR™ by Alma works differently. Practitioners employ the Soprano laser applicator “In-Motion™”. This technique heats up the dermis to a temperature level that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents hair re-growth. All of this while avoiding damage to the surrounding skin tissue. The device delivers short laser pulses deep into the dermis at a high repetition rate, achieving high average power and a more therapeutically effective heat build-up.

How does it work?

The Soprano ICE laser offers virtually painless Super Hair Removal thanks to an innovative cooling system, with cooling pumps surrounding the sapphire diode laser. The system work by gradually heating the dermis (skin) to the temperature required to damage the hair follicle and prevent regrowth. The hair follicle is damaged by targeting the pigmentation (melanin), which absorbs the light of the laser. This gradual heating is achieved by a high frequency of short pulses, whilst the ICE technology cools the skin on contact, preventing minor burns, for less painful hair removal.

How long does it last?

Following the recommended treatment regime, the hair reduction should be permanent, and clinical studies have shown a high level of client satisfaction. However, lighter hair is harder to treat as there is less melanin in the hair follicles, so you may need to return for a top up session after 1 or 2 years. Hormonal changes (including pregnancy and menopause), and ageing could have an effect on the future possibility of regrowth of hair in areas previously treated. 100% permanent hair removal can never be guaranteed with laser hair removal.

Are there any side effects?

Following a treatment session, there may be some mild irritation, itching and redness of the skin, and the hair follicles treated may be raised for up to 48 hours. Any more serious side effects, such as blistering, are rare – if adverse effects persist or cause major discomfort, a medical professional should be consulted immediately.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Plasma Pen can benefit anyone who is looking for skin tightening, a reduction in wrinkles and uneven surfaces or a reduction in unsightly pigmentation.

What does the treatment feel like?

Soprano Ice Platinum laser hair removal is virtually pain-free treatment. As the tip of the device is ice-cold, you do not feel pain. You may feel some warmth which builds up during the, but that too is not painful. Some sensitive areas of your body may feel slightly painful sensations such as bikini, underarms, facial area).

How many treatments will I need?

Most clients need 6-8 sessions, 4- 6 weeks apart to achieve the desired outcomes. However, some people may need more sessions depending on their skin tone, colour, and texture of hair or if they have hormonal issues like PCOS.
